Diarmuid Scahill (‘Doody’)

A native of Galway City, Diarmuid has been involved in musical theatre from a young age debuting as Friedrich Von Trapp in The Sound of Music with Twin Productions. Diarmuid has played principal roles in many stage productions, including: The Tin Man in The Wiz (Black Box Theatre), Baby John in West Side Story (Town Hall Theatre), Glen in The Wedding Singer (Black Box Theatre), Moritz in Spring Awakening (Town Hall Theatre) and Charles Darnay in A Tale of Two Cities (Irish Premiere).

Most recently Diarmuid played the role of Mark in RENT last February with the musical society at NUI Galway, where he is studying for a B.Sc. in Mathematical Science. He also choreographed Spring Awakening in 2012 for which he received Runner-Up for ‘Best Choreography’ by AIMS.

Diarmuid trained at the Sinead Leonard School of Dance and is currently training on scholarship at the Durham Voice Studio, Galway. He also holds grade 8 in piano with the Royal Irish Academy of Music and appeared as a vocalist in the RTÉ series Instrumental last year.

This is Diarmuid’s first time performing in the Cork Opera House and he is thrilled to be playing the role of ‘Doody’ alongside an amazing cast!
